Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced the return of BlizzCon, its iconic fan convention, through a short teaser trailer on March 11. However, fans will need to exercise patience—the highly anticipated event won’t take place until September 12-13, 2026, at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. This marks a significant departure from past BlizzCons, which were typically held in August, October, or November.
A Legacy of Epic Reveals
First established in 2005, BlizzCon has long been a hub for fans of Blizzard’s legendary franchises, including Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Overwatch. The event has served as a stage for major game announcements, expansion reveals, and in-depth developer panels.
The last BlizzCon, held in 2023, featured headline-making reveals such as Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred and the first chapter of World of Warcraft’s ambitious Worldsoul Saga, beginning with The War Within expansion. The saga will continue with two more expansions—Midnight and The Last Titan—set to roll out over the next few years.
Why Is BlizzCon Skipping Two Years?
Blizzard made the decision to forgo BlizzCon in both 2024 and 2025, citing a stronger focus on game development as the primary reason. While this means an extended wait for the next convention, fans can still look forward to smaller events in 2025.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Warcraft franchise, Blizzard is hosting six Warcraft-themed events worldwide throughout the first half of 2025. The Warcraft World Tour has already made stops in London and Seoul, with the next event scheduled for Toronto on March 15.
BlizzCon 2026: What to Expect
The official teaser trailer for BlizzCon 2026 set the stage with a chilling and electrifying visual—an icy surface struck by lightning from a swirling storm, reminiscent of Wrath of the Lich King’s iconic introduction trailer. As the ice cracked and reformed into the BlizzCon logo, the dates and location of the event were unveiled.
With over a year to go, speculation is already brewing about what Blizzard might showcase. The conclusion of World of Warcraft’s Worldsoul Saga, updates on Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2, and potential brand-new game announcements could all be on the table.
While details remain scarce for now, one thing is certain—BlizzCon 2026 is set to be a major event for Blizzard fans worldwide.
