A recent Fortnite leak suggests that a sniper rifle already considered overpowered (OP) by players will make a return in an upcoming update—this time, with an even deadlier upgrade.
The Reaper Modular Sniper Rifle: A Devastating Force
The Reaper Modular Sniper Rifle first debuted in Fortnite at the start of Chapter 5, marking the introduction of weapon attachments for the first time. Like other Chapter 5 weapons, players could customize it with various sights, magazines, and barrels. However, regardless of the modifications, the Reaper remained a dominant force on the battlefield, thanks to its high damage output and relatively fast fire rate.
Another variant of the sniper rifle has already made its way back into Fortnite’s Ballistic game mode. However, leaks now suggest that the weapon will soon return to the regular battle royale mode with a major power boost.
Reaper Sniper Rifle May Return to Fortnite With a Game-Changing Upgrade
According to trusted leaker HYPEX, Fortnite’s next update—set to launch on March 11—could introduce several Exotic weapons, provided they aren’t scrapped before release. The rumored Exotics include:
- Jump Rocket
- Collateral AR
- Hunting Rifle
- Slap Cannon
- Reaper Sniper
What makes the Reaper Sniper’s return even more intriguing is that this new Exotic version will reportedly come with the ability to track damaged players—a game-changing feature that sets it apart from its predecessors.
What the Exotic Rarity Means for the Reaper Sniper
Exotic weapons are among the rarest in Fortnite, typically sharing core stats with their Legendary counterparts while boasting unique abilities. In the case of the Reaper Sniper, its new tracking feature could make it even deadlier than it was in Season 5. Combined with the expected stat boosts that come with the Exotic rarity—such as increased damage, fire rate, or improved handling—this sniper could become a must-have weapon for skilled marksmen.
What We Know So Far About the March 11 Update
As always, players should take leaks with a grain of salt until official confirmation. So far, Epic Games has only announced three new weapons for the March 11 update:
- Rocket Drill
- Pump & Dump
- Outlaw Shotgun
This patch will also introduce Outlaw Midas as an unlockable skin. Whether or not the Reaper Sniper and other rumored Exotics make the final cut remains to be seen, but if they do, the battle royale experience could be in for a major shake-up.
